Keep the first days quiet
Offer a calm, predictable area with water, a comfortable resting place and room to retreat. Limit introductions and let your new pet approach at their own pace.
Use a consistent routine
Regular meal, toilet, walk and rest times make the new environment easier to understand. Keep changes gradual where possible.
Watch rather than pressure
Notice appetite, drinking, toileting, mobility and stress signals. Avoid forcing play or handling when a pet is asking for space.
Arrange professional care
Schedule an appropriate veterinary check and follow the rescue organisation’s health, medication and transition guidance.
